Thank you, OneDayTours, for an adventure I'll never forget. Together with my husband we booked an experience to the iconic surfing sport of Portugal, combined with the most popular coastal cities, Peniche and Nazare, and got a great opportunity to see Portugal off the beaten paths. Don't miss your chance to try it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you swim in Nazare?

You can swim in Nazare. This is an everyday activity you would find people engaging in whether they live in the area or are just visiting. Swimming areas are more than suitable besides the main beach of the municipality of Nazare (Praia da Nazaré), and the famous beach of ‘Praia do Norte’. The main is safer since it is more sheltered and the waters are less rough, which is suitable for families and those without strong swimming. As for Praia do Norte, this is a beach famous for giant waves that attract dangerous stalkers from all over the world. Swimming in them is only advised for very competent swimmers. It is also always advisable to observe the flags and listen to the warnings given by the lifeguards, as the water is rather powerful, and safety ought to be a priority.

Can you walk around Nazare?

Of course, there are many sites in Nazare, especially for leisurely walks. The town is small and beautiful; therefore, most main roads and small paths are suitable for walking. The coastline, especially the strip along the main beach, is favorable for a leisurely walk with a great view of the Atlantic Ocean and Fishing boats being returned to the shores. A walk around the old town leads to old churches, wooden houses, and small and beautiful plazas. We particularly recommend a walk to the Sítio viewpoint, which can be done on foot or using a funicular. From there, there is an excellent view of the city and the sea coast, though one has to climb many steep steps to get there.

What celebrities live in Nazare?

Nazare attracts visitors worldwide, and many celebrities, namely surfers, flock to the city, especially during the big waves. There are other famous personalities in Surfers, such as Garrett McNamara, an American surfer well-known for riding some of the biggest waves in the world at Praia do Norte. Alone, his accomplishments have placed Nazare on the map of world surf tourism. Apart from surfers, many other visitors pick this place purposefully because celebrities can be seen in Nazare. it is calm, beautiful, and has wonderful waves. However, it also can be noticed that a significant part of these visits is periodic, and many people stay in Nazare only for a certain period, for example, in the case of tourism related to surfing – the most significant for the city is the period from October to March.

What to wear in Nazare?

As for the remaining topics concerning clothing, it is worth stating that people in this location dress according to the season and the presence of any scheduled plans. During summer, one should wear loose and vividly colored clothing, wide-brimmed sun hats, and sandals since summer is usually extremely hot and sunny. Bathing suits, flip-flops, and sunblock are essential for a day at the beach. In the cooler season, preferring the autumn and winter, you should wear loose but easily removable layers and a windcheater as it is rather gusty on the coast. When going out to dinner at restaurants or to other cultural events. Do not leave out comfy shoes for the tourism center to view other historic and beautiful sites around the area.

Is Nazare a good holiday destination?

Indeed, Nazare is a suitable vacation spot with everything one can ever imagine, beautiful sceneries, culture, and adventure. It has lovely beaches and waves that are so inviting for swimmers and surfers alike. In terms of cultural endowment, the place has a splendid history, evident in this town's historic structures, fishing fleets, and local fairs. The culinary temptations in this region are also excellent – tasty and fresh fish and seafood are inevitable, and so are many traditional dishes of Portuguese cuisine that can be tasted in numerous restaurants and cafés. All those friendly people and this relaxed mood make Nazare perfect for a descent or, at least, a memorable vacation.

The weather can also be divided into four seasons, influencing water in Nazare. Meanwhile, the sea temperatures are favourable for water activities in summer, ranging from June, July, August, and September, and the sea gets to an average of 18 to 22 degrees.
