Experience Description
Begin your journey at Praça dos Restauradores, a monument to Portuguese independence. Head to Largo do Carmo, home to the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the Carmo Convent—left roofless as a memorial to the 1755 earthquake—and a key site of the 1974 Carnation Revolution. Our Guide will share details about these teo important moments that are part of the Portuguese DNA.
We will then take a short walk to Largo de Camões, the soul of the Chiado district, where a statue of Portugal’s national poet stands amidst the city's most famous cafes and bookstores including the oldest library in Lisbon. This neighberhood was a hub for the city's intellectual and artistic life, with its historic cafés and bookshops serving as key meeting points. Besides Camões some of the most notable portufuese figures often visited and gathered in this area. Fernando Pessoa another key poet from the early 20th along with Almada Negreiros mostly known for his paintings or names like Alexandro Herculano the founder of Grémio Literário or Eça de Queiroz both Romantic era portuguese writters.
Then, we will climb a little bit toward the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara (View Point), one of Lisbon's most beloved terraces, offering panoramic views of the castle, the old city and the downtown.
Along the way, we can take a peak at the Igreja de São Roque (Church), while its facade is plain, its interior is a masterpiece of gold and marble, housing what was once the world's most expensive chapel.
We will stroll through Bairro Alto, a district that transforms from a quiet labyrinth of laundry-lined streets by day into the city's primary nightlife hub by night filled of bars and restaurants. We will continue descending toward the river and visit Adamastor (Santa Catarina - View Point), a popular lookout named after a mythical sea giant, offering views of the 25th of April Bridge and the Tagus River.
Deeply connected to the poet Camões.
Passing through Bica streets, home to the city’s most photographed funicular. We will use windy local streets to get closer to the riverfront. We will see the "Green Street", another unique little corner in town, were local people mingle in cozy fusion restaurants after work.
For a taste of local culture, we will stop in Santos for a traditional Pão com Chouriço (chorizo bread), a staple Lisbon experience.
Next we will explore the trendy Cais do Sodré area, passing the vibrant Pink Street and the world-renowned Time Out Market where a traditional market still operates alongside buzzling and vibrant restaurants.
We will conclude the tour with a scenic walk along Ribeira das Naus, the former shipyard of the Portuguese Discoveries era, leading into the monumental Praça do Comércio. This vast, lemon-yellow square faces the Tagus River and serves as the grand entrance to the city, providing the perfect backdrop to finish our Lisbon exploration.
