Thank you, OneDayTours, for an adventure I'll never forget. Together with my husband we booked an experience to the iconic surfing sport of Portugal, combined with the most popular coastal cities, Peniche and Nazare, and got a great opportunity to see Portugal off the beaten paths. Don't miss your chance to try it!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best day of the week to visit Albufeira?

As with any popular tourist destination, it is best to come to Albufeira during the weekdays because, especially on the weekends, it gets very crowded. Monday is always a nice day and the chances of getting a table without waiting are high, but Wednesday and Thursday are a little better, not to mention very different from the weekend or a public holiday. During these days, one doesn’t see the hordes of tourists, and one can have a comfortable meal in restaurants and get a table even if it is located in heavily tourist areas or in restaurants that offer special sightseeing tours. When planning to visit, midweek days are the best during the low season, especially if one wants to get a feel of the city as it is.

Can you visit Albufeira in half a day?

Of course, it is possible to dedicate half a day to the visit of Albufeira, yet the visit will be rather scarce. That can be easily done in half a day, go sightseeing in the old town, take a short walk on the beach (if any), and get the first glimpse of the given city. To take a full look, in which not only historical monuments but also markets, restaurants, and maybe some culturally significant areas are to be found, at least one or two days are needed. A guided tour for half a day is satisfactory when it comes to gaining the initial impression, but if the intent is to ‘feel’ the city, then one should spare more time.

How many days do you need to see Albufeira?

Albufeira is best viewed in two to three days if one intends to get an in-depth experience. This will give you enough time to be able to visit some of the major attractions like the old town, the beaches, and markets. You can also test the town's Gastronomy and go on a Wine tour or take a boat tour. If you also plan to visit other villages near Albufeira for example or natural parks the recommendations are to stay an additional 4 to 5 days to understand the area even deeper and have a more relaxing trip.

What is the best way to get around Albufeira?

The most effective means of transport that clients may use in Albufeira depend on their preferences. In the center of the old town and along the main beaches it is most pleasant to go for a walk as all the lovely narrow streets and shops are easily accessible on foot. For distances are longer or in case of sightseeing, bicycles and e-scooters can be rented to be more mobile and also more environmentally friendly. Local buses are cheaper means of transport within Albufeira for the tourist. There is also the provision of cabs and private means of transport, including Uber, which provide ease and are preferred for group travelers or those who wish to move around during the night or in the evening.

Can you explore Albufeira by yourself?

Certainly, this is true because getting around Albufeira on your own is relatively simple. The city is small and most places of interest, restaurants, and beaches can be found within the vicinity and on foot. Though city navigation is relatively easy, for non-auto-native speakers, a map of the city or a navigation device would be helpful. Tourist information centers give out beneficial pamphlets and hints for travelers. But a guided tour can provide rather more advantages, for instance, to learn more about the history of the city, to get to know the inside information and to visit hidden gems of the city. Traveling at your convenience is a plus of self-guided travel, as you have the liberty to follow your itinerary.
