Thank you, OneDayTours, for an adventure I'll never forget. Together with my husband we booked an experience to the iconic surfing sport of Portugal, combined with the most popular coastal cities, Peniche and Nazare, and got a great opportunity to see Portugal off the beaten paths. Don't miss your chance to try it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Albufeira too touristy?

Certainly, Albufeira is very tourist-oriented particularly in summer when almost every restaurant is packed. It is a popular tourist destination and there are numerous hotels, restaurants for the tourists as well as other attractions. Several areas like the old town and the main beaches could get quite active, especially during the leaned months. But, still, it is a nice place to visit, being rather tourist-oriented but still charming. Off the beaten track, away from the glamour of Lisbon and Algarve in the countryside, in fishermen's villages and less crowded coastal areas you can get the feeling of real Portugal and a more laid-back atmosphere.

Can you get around Albufeira without a car?

Yes, it can be, but it will not be as easy as one might expect, especially when it comes to rural areas. The old town is small and compact, and much can be seen on foot or by bicycles hired from just around the corner. The restaurants and the main beaches are surprisingly near. Public buses ply in the town and are available to transport the people within and between the town and other neighboring towns. Taxis and other modes of transport, such as Uber, are also available. For more flexible movements, one can hire bikes or scooters to move around. These options are perfect for sightseeing around the city, and the nearby areas are a comfortable and ecological means of transport.

How safe is Albufeira?

All in all, it can be said that Albufeira is relatively safe for tourists. Being an important tourism hub, the city is relatively safe and well policed; this is more especially the case with regard to the areas that are frequented by tourists. However, like in any tourist destination, one has to be vigilant with their belongings and careful, especially in crowded areas. As with most crimes, the risk is relatively high at night, and one should be cautious while guarding personal belongings. Customers are usually able to have relatively safe travels if they are careful enough to err on the side of caution besides being sensitive to their environment.

Is Albufeira an expensive city?

Expenses in Albufeira depend on the consumer’s activities and time of year. This means that it is possible to find almost all types of accommodations in the city depending on the budget of the client. Premium-quality services such as exquisite accommodation facilities like hotels, exclusive and expensive cuisine services like restaurants, and classy and noble means of recreation may cost more. While locals and foreigners are high-end and have money to spend on quality food and good hotel rooms, there are also many restaurants, cafés, and hotels that are relatively cheap. Duration and offer of the wine tour also influences the total costs of the wine tour hence some of the wine tours are relatively cheaper as compared to others. In the broad sense, there are numerous luxurious and cheap places, therefore, Albufeira can be recognized as a city for everyone.

What is special about Albufeira?

The city offers the right balance between the historic appearance and the greatest facilities of the present day. The old town seems to have tiny, steep, paved roads and white houses that emit a true Portuguese feeling. Praia da Falésia and Praia dos Pescadores are some of the famous beaches in this city whose sand shines like gold and the water is crystal clear. Ponta Da Piedade is a remarkable cliff that provides beautiful views of the sea, which is of interest to lovers of nature and photography. Similarly to other settings targeting tourists, there is a diversification of restaurants, bars, and leisure activities in Albufeira, which could also be more intense. The people of the town are rather hospitable, and the welcoming vibe of the place is easily felt by anyone who comes to spend a few days there.
