Thank you, OneDayTours, for an adventure I'll never forget. Together with my husband we booked an experience to the iconic surfing sport of Portugal, combined with the most popular coastal cities, Peniche and Nazare, and got a great opportunity to see Portugal off the beaten paths. Don't miss your chance to try it!

Despite the mild Portuguese climate, the Atlantic Ocean remains cool. The water temperature is 18-21 degrees in summer and around 15 degrees in the winter season. The quality and beauty of the waves even in the cold season will not leave anyone indifferent!

What is the climate on the island of Baleal?

Portugal is the corner of Europe with the most sunny days in the year! The Portuguese climate is temperate Mediterranean, mild without sharp changes in temperature. And is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. In Baleal, winters are mild and summers are never too hot. The difference in temperature between the winter minimum and summer maximum is quite small. Portugal is a European paradise and Baleal is a place that attracts surfers from all over the world.

What food is worth trying in Baleal?

Baleal has a rich culture and traditions that are reflected in its unique cuisine. Here are some dishes definitely worth trying. Arroz de marisco is a bowl of fish rice made from different types of fish and seafood. Cataplana is a dish that consists of seafood and vegetables cooked in dough. What is there to see on the island of Baleal?

The small archipelago of Berlengas is almost unspoiled, as nature has been preserved here. The largest island is a nature reserve and a unique area where you can find a diversity of fish, birds, animals, and plants. The island is full of many beautiful pink granite grottos, under which you can take a boat ride through the amazingly clean water. And there, on a small rocky islet, stands a 17th-century fort. Diving lovers will get great pleasure here, as the clear waters allow you to have a very good look at the underwater flora and fauna, as well as shipwrecks.

Can I travel by car to Beleal?

Traveling by car in Portugal will bring great enjoyment to lovers of nature, beaches, and European architecture. However, the journey is not a long one. For such a long trip, you need to develop a clear plan, mark gas stations, calculate the fuel needed, and book hotel rooms for an intermediate rest. If you are traveling with a gas-powered car, you need to consider that this type of fuel in Portugal is not present at all stations. You can see a map with markings of stations where you can fill up with LPG.

Can you swim in Baleal?

Yes, of course. You can have a great time at Baleal Beach. It would be best if you went to the Salty Pelican. This is a great place for surfers. There are always waves on the beach, so surfers like to relax there. There are several small beaches here, where tourists always rest.
