Thank you, OneDayTours, for an adventure I'll never forget. Together with my husband we booked an experience to the iconic surfing sport of Portugal, combined with the most popular coastal cities, Peniche and Nazare, and got a great opportunity to see Portugal off the beaten paths. Don't miss your chance to try it!

Can you visit Ericeira in half a day?

Ericeira is a small resort town on the northern coast of Portugal, famous for its picturesque rocky road, steep landscape forms, and varied sea views. Although Ericeira is a perfect place to stay for a few days or weeks, it can be visited in half a day if you have limited time. Start your day by visiting Hortana Hill, which is located in the center of the city. From there, you can look out to the ocean and enjoy breathtaking views. Ericeira is a perfect day trip from Lisbon or other cities in Portugal. If you have more time, it is recommended to stay for a few days or weeks to enjoy all its attractions and activities.

What is the best season to visit Ericeira?

Summer is considered the “high season” in Ericeira. Technically, it’s June, July, and August. The weather during the summer months is hot and sunny during the day, but it gets cool at night. However, you’ll see people swimming in the ocean and sunbathing from early spring to late fall, so don’t feel like you have to come in the height of summer to enjoy the beaches. If you’re visiting in winter, December is a special time because you’ll see the city all decked out for the holidays. There’s a small Christmas market in the city center, and on New Year’s Eve, there’s a huge street party at Praia dos Pescadores. This city is beautiful at any time.

How to get to Ericeira?

You can start your journey from Lisbon, for example by car. The distance from Lisbon to Ericeira is 36 km. By car, the A8 + A21 motorways via Odivelas, Loures, and Malveira take up to 40 minutes. The center of the municipality of Mafra is 8.2 km away, the travel time is up to 9 minutes. Mafra is connected to Lisbon and other regions of Portugal by rail and intercity routes and is part of the Carris Metropolitana network. Can you explore Ericeira by yourself?

Yes, of course. But it would be good to have a travel plan. The route along the ocean north of Lisbon is one of the most popular walking destinations on the Portuguese coast. You can order a tour that is closest to your heart and enjoy the trip. It can be a walking, bus, one-day, or gastronomic tour of Ericeira. Pleasant surprises and various interesting places will await you on the way. Ericeira is a fishing village with a long fishing tradition, which is now recognized as a world surfing reserve.

What is the best way to see Ericeira?

You choose what is best for you. It is convenient to travel by car. Even if you don't have a car, Ericeira is easily accessible. You can use the bus, rent a car or bike. Is Ericeira walkable?

Since Ericeira’s town center is quite small, it’s very walkable, especially in the main areas where the roads are car-free. For such a small town (population just over 10,000), there are quite a few restaurants, charming boutiques, and cafes to suit all tastes. The best news is that if you stay close to the town center, everything is very walkable.
