Thank you, OneDayTours, for an adventure I'll never forget. Together with my husband we booked an experience to the iconic surfing sport of Portugal, combined with the most popular coastal cities, Peniche and Nazare, and got a great opportunity to see Portugal off the beaten paths. Don't miss your chance to try it!

Frequently Asked Questions

What dishes are the must-try in Setubal?

In Setúbal the local food has many dishes based on fresh seafood, which is one of the biggest attractions of the area. An exemplary one is Caldeirada de Peixe, this is a soupy fish and seafood dish taken through thick and thin with different types of fish and shellfish endued in a spiced broth. It is served hot and is normally accompanied by bread, which will help in the absorption of the juices. Another local favorite is Choco Frito, which is fried squid, with what has a crispy coverage outside and soft, succulent inside. It is normally sweetened with sugar and may also be spiced up with a combination of sweet and hot spices to give a thrilling and deserving snack.

Is Setubal walkable?

Indeed, it is quite possible to walk around most parts of Setubal. Most of the major sights, including the port, the market hall, and the old town are quite conveniently located within walking distance. It is a small city in terms of dimensions thus you can cover different areas with a lot of ease. In other cases where opting to go further afield or to more specific attractions like the natural park of Arrabida, it is viable to cycle or take the local transport.

What is the best way to see Setubal?

Strolling in Setubal is excellent, but apart from this, it is advisable to make use of other means of transport. An ideal starting point is walking through the Old Town, during which, see markets with various products, and cafés, and explore historical landmarks several times over. Walking along the waterfronting provides an opportunity for one to check on the harbor and the Atlantic Ocean. In case you wish to have a view of the city from the seaside or the water, then you can go for the boating services for a tour round the coast. In case you wish to go out of the city, then hiring a bicycle or taking a bus is very convenient. This will enable you to get to other beautiful places for instance the neighboring beaches or the beautiful Arrabida Nature Reserve. Coordinating these approaches allows you to get smoke pictures of Streusal and taste feelings and emotions at the same time.

Can you visit Setubal in half a day?

Indeed, one can orient at Setubal for half a day to see only the main attractions. If necessary, one can go to the port area, perhaps, to buy some souvenirs in the local food-orientated market hall and see one or two historical buildings. But to be able to fully appreciate the diversity of the cuisine, to do the wine tasting and maybe take a small tour around the region, at least one of the beaches, more time is desirable.

How many days do you need to see Setubal?

When revisiting Setubal, one should spend at least two to three days to enable them to get around and fully explore the area. This affords you some time that you can visit some of the cultural and historical attractions such as the port, the old town, and the historical churches. Moreover, you will be able to try the local food to the fullest and take a wine tasting as well. Visits that can complement the tour are a boat ride or the exploration of the Arrabida Natural Park as a full day will suffice and provide a great insight into the area.
